Fan Zhang is a New York–based sound designer and composer whose work has earned distinction from the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Henry Hewes, AUDELCO, and New York Innovative Theatre Awards. Her designs span theatre, dance, film, radio, and installation, and have been praised by The New York Times and Vulture for their intelligence and “otherworldly quality.”

Recent credits include Good Bones, Jordans (The Public), At the Wedding (Lincoln Center Theater), The Far Country and Paris (Atlantic Theater), Snow in Midsummer (Classic Stage Company), This Land Was Made (Vineyard Theatre), The Golden Age and On That Day in Amsterdam (59E59), A Kid Like Rishi (Origin Theatre), Our Dear Dead Drug Lord (Second Stage & WP Theater), Pumpgirl (Irish Repertory Theatre), Suicide Forest (Ma-Yi & A.R.T.), Molly Sweeney (Keen Company), Behind the Sheet (Ensemble Studio Theatre), Round Table (59E59), Beautiful Day Without You (West End Theatre), and Calling: Dance With a Faith (Ping Chong & La MaMa).

Nationally,  she has designed for institutions including Shakespeare Theatre Company, Berkeley Rep, Arena Stage, Steppenwolf, Milwaukee Rep, American Repertory Theater, Long Wharf, Yale Rep, Huntington Theatre, and The Old Globe, among others.

She is a member of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829 (IATSE), ASDP, and TSDCA, and serves as Professor of Sound Design in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Purdue University. Zhang holds an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
